IBS New York 2017: Tips, Reviews, and My Favorite Finds

This year marked my third time attending IBS New York. As always, it was educational. It was also entertaining. The event was packed with exciting opportunities! When I first began attending with my mom, I spent much more money. It’s easy to overspend when everything, including classes, is offered at half the retail price.

One highlight of this year’s event was a promotion by renowned hairstylist Ted Gibson. He offered free access to his new online classes for the rest of March via his website. It’s an excellent resource for anyone eager to enhance their hairstyling skills.

My Experience at IBS New York: Products, Insights, and Tips

This year marked my third time attending IBS New York. As always, it was educational. It was entertaining and packed with exciting opportunities!

Budgeting for the Event

To manage my spending this year, I brought along a $50 gift card I received for Christmas. I also limited myself to an extra $45. Many hairstylists travel from across the country. They come to take advantage of the wholesale deals on hair products, brushes, nail polish, salon merchandise, and more.

A great perk of a general admission ticket is free access to the spa fashion show next door. Dermatologists and specialists offer free facial treatments, samples, and even tanning sessions.

Products I Purchased

This year, I revisited the Agadir line, which I first tried at a previous IBS event. I bought their sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner, and Curl Cream. After using these products, I noticed my hair felt soft, manageable, and free from the need for reapplications of leave-in treatments.

After my first use of the product, my hair is still soft and does not need any misting of water or reapplication of leave in. I reused the Argan oil to add more shine.

Additionally, I purchased two sets of face masks for acne scars: Charcoal Gel Masks and Tea Tree Masks. For $45, I received five of each, thanks to a deal offered by the dermatologist. The Charcoal Gel Mask is perfect for multi-use, and I’ll share more about my skincare routine in a future post.

Missed Opportunities

Although I wanted to buy Farmhouse Fresh’s Whoopie! Shea Butter Cream, the line was far too long. Instead, I decided to buy it at full price later. Next time, I’ll make sure to visit their booth earlier in the day!

 What Makes IBS Special

IBS New York isn’t the only event of its kind. The next show will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 24–26, 2023. These events are great for:

  • Learning new techniques from top hairstylists.
  • Exploring products from well-known vendors.
  • Gaining insights into the beauty industry.

I’m not in the beauty industry full-time. I attend these events to support my mom. I learn techniques for helping her at the salon. I also find products for my personal use.

Tips for First-Time Attendees

Attending IBS taught me the value of testing samples before investing in a full product line. Early on, I wasn’t cautious and bought products, like a curling wand, that I no longer use. This time, I focused on education and the learning experience, which helped me make more informed decisions.

Final Thoughts

IBS New York continues to be a valuable experience for anyone in or passionate about the beauty industry. From discounted products to educational opportunities, there’s something for everyone.
